Action item status is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for action item status. The allowed values are PLANNED, IN_PROGRESS, COMPLETED, DEFERRED. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps action item status consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined action item status states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
