Budget transaction type is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for budget transaction type. The allowed values are EXPENDITURE, TRANSFER_IN, TRANSFER_OUT, ADJUSTMENT, ENCUMBRANCE. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps budget transaction type consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined budget transaction type states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
