Candidate status is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for candidate status. The allowed values are APPLIED, SCREENING, PHONE_INTERVIEW, CAMPUS_VISIT, FACULTY_VOTE, OFFER_EXTENDED, ACCEPTED, DECLINED, REJECTED. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps candidate status consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined candidate status states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
