Escalation level is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for escalation level. The allowed values are NONE, GENTLE_REMINDER, FIRM_REMINDER, CHAIR_NOTIFIED, ESCALATED. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps escalation level consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined escalation level states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
