Evidence status is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for evidence status. The allowed values are NOT_STARTED, IN_PROGRESS, SUBMITTED, VALIDATED, REJECTED. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps evidence status consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined evidence status states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
