Fund status is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for fund status. The allowed values are ACTIVE_FUND, FROZEN, DEPLETED, CLOSED_FUND. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps fund status consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined fund status states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
