Modality is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for modality. The allowed values are IN_PERSON, ONLINE_SYNC, ONLINE_ASYNC, HYBRID, HYFLEX. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps modality consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined modality states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
