Planning cycle status is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for planning cycle status. The allowed values are SETUP, PC_OPEN, UNDER_REVIEW, FINALIZED, PC_CLOSED. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps planning cycle status consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined planning cycle status states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
