Preference level is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for preference level. The allowed values are PREFERRED, ACCEPTABLE, AVOID, UNAVAILABLE. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps preference level consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined preference level states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
