Program type is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for program type. The allowed values are BS, MS, PHD, CERTIFICATE, MINOR. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps program type consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined program type states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
