Publication type is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for publication type. The allowed values are JOURNAL_ARTICLE, BOOK, BOOK_CHAPTER, CONFERENCE_PAPER, CONFERENCE_PRESENTATION, POSTER, TECHNICAL_REPORT, WORKING_PAPER, OTHER. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps publication type consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined publication type states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
