Scholarly work type is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for scholarly work type. The allowed values are PUBLICATION, PRESENTATION, GRANT, CREATIVE_WORK, PATENT. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps scholarly work type consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined scholarly work type states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
