Service category is a fixed list of values that Chalk uses for service category. The allowed values are DEPARTMENT, COLLEGE, UNIVERSITY, PROFESSIONAL, COMMUNITY. A record can only ever hold one of these exact values, which keeps service category consistent across curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget records, as well as the API. When you see one of these on a record, it is one of the defined service category states rather than free text, so reports and automations can rely on it.
