Two conditions can trigger an exceedance record in Piper. An Exceeded type means the measured concentration is above the regulatory threshold — a straightforward compliance failure. An ElevatedMDL type means the analytical method detection limit (MDL) is higher than the threshold, so even a non-detect result cannot confirm compliance. Both types appear in exceedance summaries and regulatory reports, but they carry different implications for risk and required response actions.
