The methodId on a HoldingTimeViolation tells you which EPA or standard method defines the holding-time limit that was exceeded. Each method — for example, EPA 8260 for VOCs or EPA 6020 for metals — has its own maximum hold time specified in method documentation or your site's QAPP. Knowing the methodId lets you look up the exact limit in the original method reference and confirm that Piper's limitDays value is correct. It also lets you group violations by method to identify whether a particular analytical method's requirements are consistently being missed.
