The screenTopDepth in a WellConstruction record defines the upper boundary of the zone the well actually samples. Together with screenBottomDepth, it tells you which portion of the aquifer or vadose zone the well is screened across. Regulators and hydrogeologists use this to confirm the well is appropriately placed to intercept a contaminant plume at the correct depth interval. Accurate screenTopDepth values are essential for valid water-level-to-elevation conversions.
