The sealTop in WellConstruction indicates how close to ground surface the bentonite or grout seal extends. Most regulatory programs require the seal to reach within a few feet of the surface so that the entire casing annulus above the filter pack is protected. If sealTop is too deep, there is an unsealed gap near the surface where rainwater or contaminants could travel down to the screen. Well designers and inspectors check sealTop against sealBottom and filterPackTop to confirm adequate coverage.
