The sealType in WellConstruction specifies what material — usually bentonite pellets, bentonite slurry, or cement grout — was used to seal the annular space above the filter pack. An adequate seal prevents surface water or shallow groundwater from short-circuiting directly down to the screen, which would contaminate samples. Most state environmental programs require a minimum seal thickness and specify acceptable sealType materials. Regulators may request this information when investigating anomalous sampling results or during well integrity reviews.
