The artifactId is one half of the ArtifactLabBatch join, naming which Artifact has been placed into a lab batch. Paired with the labBatchId, it forms the composite key that makes each artifact-in-batch assignment unique, so the same artifact can never be added to the same batch twice while still being free to join other batches. If the underlying artifact is deleted, its batch-membership rows are removed automatically, keeping lab batches from referencing finds that no longer exist.
