Excavation Unit Dimension NS

The `dimensionNS` on an `ExcavationUnit` records the unit's measurement along the north–south axis, one half of its plan-view size.

The dimensionNS of an ExcavationUnit captures how long the unit runs from north to south. Paired with dimensionEW, it defines the unit's footprint — a standard one-by-one-metre EXCAVATION_UNIT, an elongated TRENCH, or a small SHOVEL_TEST_PIT. These two dimensions let Relic compute the area you have opened, which feeds directly into density calculations such as artifacts per square metre and into estimates of how much soil remains to excavate. Recording the north–south dimension accurately, against the same grid as the unit's unitDesignation, keeps your maps to scale and your volume math honest. The field is optional for cases where a unit's shape is irregular.
