Many projects dig units of a standard size, and the defaultUnitDimensions field stores those default measurements so they do not have to be typed in every time. It is stored as JSON and is optional — a tenant that has not configured defaults simply leaves it null. When set, it pre-fills the dimensions on a new ExcavationUnit, such as its north–south and east–west extents, saving time and keeping unit sizes consistent across a project. Individual units can still override the defaults when needed.
