subtotal is the total of what the buyer paid for the livestock itself — every lot they won, added up. It's calculated by Tally from the sale transactions, so you don't edit it by hand. Buyer fees and tax are added on top to reach the total due.
This is a read-only, calculated amount. It changes only when the underlying sale transactions change.
