Hammer time is the moment of sale — when the auctioneer dropped the hammer. It establishes the order lots sold in and is the legal "time of sale" for the transaction.

This is the sale time, not the time the row was entered into the system. The ring clerk may key a transaction a few seconds later, but hammer time reflects the actual sale.
