It holds a String value and is part of the compensation band record's data. The departmentId field belongs to the compensation band it is recorded on, so faculty, staff, and automations read or set departmentId while working with that CompensationBand record. Because departmentId is part of the CompensationBand record, it stays consistent with the rest of that record's data and is scoped to the tenant that owns the compensation band.
