category (Equipment.category) is a field stored on each equipment record in Chalk, the higher-education academic operations platform for curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget. It holds a String value and is part of the equipment record's data. The category field belongs to the equipment it is recorded on, so faculty, staff, and automations read or set category while working with that Equipment record. Because category is part of the Equipment record, it stays consistent with the rest of that record's data and is scoped to the tenant that owns the equipment.
