settings (Tenant.settings) is a field stored on each tenant record in Chalk, the higher-education academic operations platform for curriculum, assessment, faculty, scheduling, accreditation, and budget. It holds a Json value and is part of the tenant record's data. The settings field belongs to the tenant it is recorded on, so faculty, staff, and automations read or set settings while working with that Tenant record. Because settings is part of the Tenant record, it stays consistent with the rest of that record's data and is scoped to the tenant that owns the tenant.
