An Analyte represents a specific chemical substance — benzene, arsenic, PFAS, nitrate — that is measured in groundwater samples and compared against regulatory thresholds.

Each Analyte carries a casNumber (the universal CAS Registry Number), a human-readable name and abbreviation, and an analyteGroup that classifies it as a VOC, Metal, PFAS, or other category. The isRegulated flag marks analytes that have active thresholds, and defaultUnit sets the concentration unit used across all results and threshold comparisons. Compliance teams use these fields to organize lab results, filter exceedance reports by chemical class, and ensure unit consistency across sampling events.
