The resultValue on an AnalyticalResult stores the raw numeric measurement from the lab report — for example, 0.045 mg/L for benzene in a groundwater sample. This is the value as the lab delivered it, in the reportedUnit they specified. Piper also stores a normalizedValue for unit-consistent comparisons, but the original resultValue is preserved as the authoritative measurement for audit purposes. When an AnalyticalResult triggers an Exceedance, the resultConcentration on the Exceedance is derived from the normalized form of this value.
