Lab report files rarely use Piper's field names directly. The columnMapping stored on an ImportMappingProfile defines the translation — for example, mapping the lab's "Sample ID" column to Piper's sampleId field, or "Result mg/L" to resultValue. Once saved in the profile, every ImportBatch that uses this profile applies the columnMapping automatically during parsing, so analysts do not need to re-specify the mapping for each new file from the same laboratory.
