totalVolumeGallons on a PurgeLog is the key volumetric record of the purge event. Divided by wellVolumeGallons, it yields volumesPurged — how many well casing volumes were removed. Many regulatory monitoring programs require that a minimum number of well volumes be purged before sampling (commonly 3 to 5, or until parameter stabilization). totalVolumeGallons provides the raw data to verify volume-based compliance requirements.
