Sample Bottle

A SampleBottle represents one type of sample container within a CoCRecord, describing what it holds, how it is preserved, and how many were filled. Multiple SampleBottle records per CoCRecord accommodate the different container requirements for different analyte groups.

When you collect groundwater from a well, different analytical tests require different containers and preservatives. A SampleBottle in Piper captures containerType (e.g., "40 mL amber vial"), the preservative added (e.g., "HCl"), the analyteGroup the container is for (e.g., "VOCs"), how many containers were filled (containerCount), and the volume collected. One CoCRecord typically has several SampleBottle records — one per analyte group requested. Tracking bottles at this level ensures the laboratory receives a complete record of what was submitted.
