The volume on a SampleBottle documents how much sample was collected — for example, "40 mL" for a standard VOC vial or "1 L" for a metals polyethylene bottle. Some analytical methods have minimum volume requirements, and recording volume in Piper allows you and the laboratory to confirm that enough sample was provided. If the volume was insufficient due to a low-yield well, this field combined with the notes field creates a documented record of the collection limitation that the lab and regulator can reference.
