The description field is where you write a fuller account of a find — its form, decoration, manufacture, wear, or anything notable that the coded fields like materialType and objectType do not express. It is optional and unconstrained, so you can be as brief or detailed as the artifact warrants. Good descriptions make the catalog readable to specialists who later analyze the assemblage and help reviewers understand a find without having it in hand. It complements rather than replaces the structured measurement and classification fields.
