The easting field captures where, along the east–west axis, an artifact was found within the site grid. Paired with northing, it fixes a find's horizontal location so it can be mapped against the excavation plan. Adding depthCmbd gives the third dimension for complete provenience. Like its companion coordinate, easting is optional and used for individually plotted finds rather than bulk material recorded at the unit level. It is stored as a decimal to keep the precision needed for accurate plotting.
