The temperature field notes how hot or cold it was on a day of fieldwork, stored as free text so crews can write it however suits them — "72°F", "high 20s°C", or "below freezing at dawn". It is optional and complements the weather field, together painting a picture of field conditions. Because it is text rather than a number, there is no fixed unit or format; teams simply record temperature in whatever way is clearest for their site and region.
