The visitors field records anyone who came to the dig that day who was not part of the regular crew — landowners, regulators, SHPO representatives, students, journalists, or the public on an open day. It is optional, but it is valuable for compliance and outreach records: knowing when officials inspected the site or when stakeholders were briefed can matter later for reporting and permitting. Written as free text, it lets teams capture names, affiliations, and the purpose of a visit in whatever detail the day warrants.
