Every Project carries a ProjectType that tells the team what kind of work it covers. SURVEY is a broad reconnaissance to locate and record sites across a landscape, usually without deep digging. EXCAVATION is full-scale controlled digging of a site to recover artifacts and document context. MONITORING means an archaeologist watches construction or ground-disturbing work and steps in if cultural material appears. TESTING is limited subsurface investigation — shovel tests or test pits — to evaluate whether a site is present and significant before committing to full excavation.
