When you record a Project's location using UTM coordinates, the utmEasting gives its position along the east-west axis, measured in meters within the project's utmZone. Paired with utmNorthing (the north-south coordinate) and the zone number, it precisely locates the project on a map. The value is stored with two decimal places of precision, so it can capture sub-meter accuracy when your GPS or survey data supports it. It is optional, so projects located only by latitude and longitude, or described in plain text, can leave it blank. Use it whenever your field data is collected in UTM, which is common for archaeological survey and excavation.
