Give each Site a clear siteName that your crew will recognize — often a local place name, a landowner's name, or a descriptive label like "Cedar Creek Bluff". The siteName is what appears in site lists, dropdowns, and reports, so a meaningful choice makes the records easy to navigate even before a formal designation is assigned. It must be unique within its parent Project, so no two sites in the same investigation can share a name. The readable siteName works alongside the formal smithsonianTrinomial: the trinomial is the official code for agency reporting, while the siteName is the friendly label your team actually uses day to day.
