Each Site is tagged with a SiteType so teams can quickly understand its character. PREHISTORIC sites predate written records in the region and are typically associated with Indigenous occupation. HISTORIC sites date to the period of written documentation, such as colonial settlements or industrial remains. MULTI_COMPONENT sites contain evidence from more than one period — for example a prehistoric campsite reused during historic times. UNKNOWN is used when the cultural affiliation has not yet been determined from the available evidence.
