SoilTexture records the feel and composition of the sediment in a StratigraphicLayer, following the standard USDA-style texture triangle. The base classes are SAND (coarse, gritty), SILT (smooth, floury), and CLAY (sticky, plastic), with LOAM being a balanced mixture of all three. The remaining values are intermediate blends — SANDY_LOAM, SILTY_LOAM, CLAY_LOAM, SANDY_CLAY, SILTY_CLAY, SANDY_CLAY_LOAM, SILTY_CLAY_LOAM, LOAMY_SAND, and SANDY_SILT — each naming the dominant components in proportion. Recording texture consistently helps archaeologists correlate layers between units and interpret deposition.
