Net is the weight that counts: gross weight with shrink taken out. This is the figure that flows into a lot's aggregate weight and ultimately into per-cwt sale math. You don't enter it; it's gross minus tare.
If there's no tare, net and gross are the same. Net is read-only — change gross or tare to change it.
