The Animals list is the barn's running catalog of every individual head that has come through the door. Every Animal belongs to one consignment (the truckload it rolled in on) and carries the facts that identify it and price it later:

  • species and sexClass — a CATTLE HEIFER, a SHEEP EWE, a GOAT WETHER, and so on. Together these decide which pen, which lot, and which fee schedule apply.

  • breed — free text like "Black Angus" or "Boer", when it matters to buyers.

  • backTag and eidTag — the two ways to physically find this head. The back tag is the paper sticker on its hide; the EID tag is the electronic ear button. An EID is unique per appearance (per animal, per consignment), so the same button reappearing on a later sale is its own record.

  • weightHundredths — the intake weight, stored in hundredths of a pound so nothing rounds away between the scale, the ring, and the settlement.

  • flags like pelvicBranded and groupOnly (head sold only as part of a group, never individually).

Each animal also carries a status that tells you exactly where it is in the sale. New arrivals start at RECEIVED. When staff group it into a lot it becomes LOTTED. When the lot hammers it becomes SOLD. Head that don't sell are NO_SALE, ones pulled before the ring are WITHDRAWN, and any that die in the yard are marked DEAD. The list lets office staff search across every sale to find any single head, then open it to see its lot, its weigh tickets, and the health papers filed on its consignment.
