Every regulated sampling event requires a chain-of-custody document to prove sample integrity. In Piper, the ChainOfCustody model records the cocNumber assigned to the shipment, the samplerName and samplerCompany who collected the samples, the shippedVia carrier, the trackingNumber for the cooler, and the lab's receivedAt timestamp and receiptCondition. Without a completed CoC, lab results cannot be tied to a defensible sampling history for regulatory submittal.
