Create a Feature whenever you encounter something that cannot simply be bagged and carried to the lab — a featureType such as HEARTH, PIT, POSTHOLE, WALL, FLOOR, MIDDEN, BURIAL, STRUCTURE, or OTHER. Give it a sequential featureNumber, a free-text description of what you see, and an interpretation of what it means. Record its vertical limits with depthTop and depthBottom, and its horizontal limits with northExtent, southExtent, eastExtent, and westExtent. The status field tracks excavation progress through IDENTIFIED, PARTIALLY_EXCAVATED, FULLY_EXCAVATED, and SAMPLED. A Feature can be tied to a primary excavationUnit and to additional units through unitLinks, and it gathers the artifacts and photoRecords found within it.

Feature
A `Feature` is a non-portable element of the archaeological record — something built, dug, or deposited in antiquity that is documented where it lies rather than collected. Each Feature belongs to a `project` and a `site`.
